SOMERVILLE -- Somerville police were flooded with phone calls this morning after residents reported seeing a large tube-like object fluttering through the sky.
Police said they were swamped with phone calls after a flurry of callers reported to radio station NJ 101.5 that a UFO was flying above the area. Residents then began calling the Somerville Police Department to report the object.
“I first noticed when all our mechanics started looking up at the sky,” said Terry Weil, a sales associate at Honda Autosport in Bridgewater. “It looked like a big black strip fluttering in the air. Maybe a cylinder.”
Somerville Police Lt. Donna Young said authorities were not sure what the object was, but said it caused no problems other than tying up police phone lines shortly before noon.
“We have no idea what it was but it did not cause any problems here in Somerville,” she said. “We are under the impression that it might be a weather balloon or something like that, but regardless, it did not cause any problems whatsoever.”
The Air Traffic Control Tower in Morristown did not have any pilot reports of the object, nor did officials at Solberg Airport in Hunterdon, Somerset Airport in Bedminster and Blairstown Airport in Warren County.

Carl Sagan Knew UFOs Are Real, Confidant Reveals

Renowned astronomer, astrophysicist and pillar of modern space science Dr. Carl Sagan revealed to Dr. J. Allen Hynek that he believed UFOs were real. Sagan said to Hynek, that he knew UFOs were real but could not talk publicly about the matter and possibly risk the loss of academic funding.
(PRWEB) May 7, 2010 -- Renowned astronomer and astrophysicist Dr. Carl Sagan revealed to Dr. J. Allen Hynek that he believed UFOs were real but avoided any public statements to prevent the loss of academic research funding.

In an interview with research journalist and author Paola Leopizzi-Harris (http://www.paolaharris.com/home.htm) she told ZlandCommunications:

“My recollection is that Hynek said it was backstage of one of the many Johnny Carson Tonight shows Sagan did. He basically said (to Hynek) in 1984, ‘I know UFOs are real, but I would not risk my research (College) funding, as you do, to talk openly about them in public.’ ”
This startling revelation about Carl Sagan, one of this century’s most esteemed scientists and writers, has now been made public by Paola Leopizzi-Harris, a former associate of Dr. Allen J. Hynek who worked with him from 1980 to 1985.

Carl Sagan - "I know UFOs are real..."
Dr. J. Allen Hynek served as a civilian scientific consultant to the U.S. Air Force Project Blue Book from 1952 to 1969, initially taking a very critical and skeptical position on anything related to the reality of UFOs. In one of his own reports he stated:
"I had started out as an outright 'debunker,' taking great joy in cracking what seemed at first to be puzzling cases. I was the arch-enemy of those 'flying saucer groups and enthusiasts' who very dearly wanted UFOs to be interplanetary.” (Hynek, J. Allen. "The Hynek UFO Report". Dell Publishing Co. 1977)
After leaving Project Blue Book - the U.S. Air Force’s pseudo-investigatory public relations scheme on UFOs, Hynek later wrote:
"Now, however, documentation which puts the UFO-U.S. government controversy in quite a new light has become available. The (UFO) authors have made revealing use of documents released through the mechanism of the Freedom of Information Act and other data which have been made available to them… which show that the CIA and NSA protestations of innocence and lack of interest in UFOs are nothing short of prevarication."
Hynek went on to say: "For the government to continue to maintain that UFOs are nonexistent in the face of the documents already released and of other cogent evidence presented in this book is puerile and in a sense an insult to the American people." ("The UFO Cover-Up." Fireside books, Simon & Schuster 1984)
Hynek’s credentials are indeed impressive, having consulted on the Stephen Spielberg movie 'Close Encounters'. As well he presented a paper on UFOs at the UN in 1978. (All Experts)
Sagan’s link to UFOs and possibly to Dr. Hynek occurred in 1966 when Sagan was a member of the Ad Hoc Committee to Review Project Blue Book. This committee concluded that the U.S. Air Force's Project Blue Book had been lacking as a scientific study, and recommended a university-based project to give the UFO phenomenon closer scientific scrutiny. (https://www.cia.gov/library/center-for-the-study-of-intelligence/csi-publications/csi-studies/studies/97unclass/ufo.html)
In scientific circles much of Sagan’s notoriety came from debates conducted under the auspices of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). In 1969 he challenged J. Allen Hynek on whether investigations of unidentified flying objects should be considered serious. Hynek argued 'yes' Sagan 'no' (NNDB)
Sagan was a prolific writer of some 20 books including 'Contact' – eventually made into a movie staring Jodie Foster. Sagan also hosted the brilliantly crafted and highly popular series COSMOS: A Personal Voyage. In Episode 12: “Encyclopedia Galactica”, Sagan explored UFOs and alien abductions while also including ‘refutations’ on UFOs.
In a statement at the 1968 Congressional Hearings before the House Committee on Science and Astronautics - U.S. House of Representatives Carl Sagan stated:
“As I understand what the committee would like from me, is a discussion of the likelihood of intelligent extraterrestrial life… clearly it is the hypothesis that unidentified objects are of extraterrestrial origin which the committee must have in mind. I'm delighted to tell about contemporary scientific thinking along these lines, but let me begin by saying that I do not think the evidence is at all persuasive, that UFO's are of intelligent extraterrestrial origin...” (http://files.ncas.org/ufosymposium/sagan.html)
Sagan’s confidential conversation with Dr. Hynek in 1984 appears to not only contradict this statement to the House Committee in 1968, Sagan’s new found view - that UFOs were real - clearly did not play any role in Sagan’s later highly successful public work.
This revelation by Paola Leopizzi-Harris appears to raise serious scientific discrepancies concerning Sagan’s public verses private beliefs about the nature of UFOs and Extraterrestrial life.
It appears, therefore that Carl Sagan presumably embarked upon his many television appearances, consulting on major television and Hollywood feature productions as well as his own academic writing while professing one public scientific point of view, yet maintaining a significantly contradictory personal belief – “I know UFOs are real…” as told to Dr. J. Allen Hynek in 1984 according to Paola Leopizzi-Harris.
In later years Sagan also heavily promoted SETI - the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, which discounts UFOs as an ET reality - advancing the theory that listening for signals from deep space may help locate intelligent ET civilizations. (Ed.note - SETI officials were contacted by ZlandCommunications for a comment on this matter – however at the time of publication no response had yet been received.)
It is unknown how long Sagan held this personal view or when and what changed his mind – future disclosures may reveal this. That Sagan presented much of his finest and most popular work outside the context of his personal belief that UFOs were real remains a salient incongruity for a man of Sagan’s stature, obvious integrity and celebratory contributions to humanity and science.
One can only speculate upon why, during the period between Sagan’s initial statement in 1968 and all during his now legendary writings and media productions, Sagan continued to espouse critical views on the reality of UFOs. Why did his views change so dramatically? Did funding issues alone motivate him not to come forward publicly to declare his change-of-mind?
This revelation made to Paola Leopizzi-Harris by a well-respected scientific figure like Dr. J. Allen Hynek alters if not the magnificent quality of Sagan’s work but re-constructs his considerable scientific influence on the mainstream scientific theories about the universe, the intelligent nature of UFOs and Extraterrestrial life.
How will mainstream science respond knowing now that a corner stone of modern science and one of its most revered members is now recognized as to have conceded - UFOs are real?
Two conclusions emerge:

One of the 20th Century’s most renowned space gurus and scientific leaders, appears to have inadvertently shattered the prevailing notion among the scientific community and the so-called experts, that UFOs are fictitious and that issue is does not merit further study.
The second conclusion - short of full disclosure by government of the UFO/ET reality, this revelation most assuredly represents the most serious damage yet to the wall of secrecy and the truth embargo surrounding the Extraterrestrial presence so ardently maintained by government officials and bolstered by mainstream science.
Notably this information also comes at a time when Paul Hellyer, former Canadian Minister of National Defence has publicly admonished another pillar of mainstream science, Professor Stephen Hawking, for contributing to misinformation about advanced Extraterrestrial civilizations. Hellyer’s admonishment is timely. It puts all scientists on notice that ponderous changes to their entrenched belief about the universe and Extraterrestrial life are about to occur. (http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20100502/stephen-hawking-aliens-canada-100502/20100502?hub=Canada)
The Sagan story also arrives on the eve of the X-Conference – the largest annual American UFO/ET Disclosure event coordinated by Stephen G. Bassett Director of PRG - the Paradigm Research Group at the National Press Club in Washington DC, just down the street from the White House and a President that recognizes the need for grave global change. (http://www.paradigmresearchgroup.org/X-Conference2010/X-Conference2010.htm)
When asked to comment PRG Director Stephen G. Bassett said,
“Carl Sagan and J. Allen Hynek perfectly represent the intellectual and political dilemma faced by the human race during the second half of the 20th century. Both helped to radically change our view of the world… Yet one must be profoundly wrong on the most important historical event in human history.”
Ironically, a cloistered conversation between to academicians behind the curtain - backstage on the set of the Johnny Carson Show in 1984 seems to have changed science and with it, the paradigm beliefs of an entire planet – we are not alone.

UFO in Naples? Residents describe seeing mysterious light

Ann Hall didn’t think much of the strange light hovering above the water about five houses down from her Isles of Capri home in Naples.
light.jpg
Hall, 70, describes the light as not being a perfect ball, but being a bit “squished” on the top and the bottom, “It just hovered, but it didn’t move,” Hall said. “We just wondered what it was.”
And she's not the only one who has observed the strange light.
Reported sightings of strange lights on Isles of Capri or off its coast now number at least 11, reports the Naples Daily News.
Now Morgan Beall, an investigator with Mutual Unidentified Flying Object Network, a group that has investigators across the country, is looking into the mystery light.
Beall said he believes the light caught by the camera, which was facing west, could be the moon setting.
But Hall thinks differently.
“There’s no way the moon was going down on the water at 10:22 p.m.,” Hall said.

Bright light was UFO says East Texan

A Nacogdoches man gazed into Sunday night's sky, and was transfixed by mysterious bright shapes. He says he saw a UFO. "It was just sitting up there, just bouncing up and down, bouncing up and down, moving back and fourth," said Albert Davis.
He was driving home from work with his family when bright, flickering lights caught his eye. "We knew it wasn't from here on Earth because...we've seen jets flying around and I don't think [it was] jets," said Davis. "We knew jets couldn't make the moves it was making."
Davis says the UFO hovered above his apartment for two hours. Then, he spotted more. "And, one was over there and one was in the back out there - pretty good distance out in the back," he said. "It was just following us."
Davis believes what he saw was a flying saucer. He says he has never seen anything like it light up the night sky before. "[It] changed colors, threw something out of it, made a circle, it just made a circle and it shot back down toward the east way [and] disappeared," said Davis.
Astronomer Norman Markworth studies the East Texas sky. He says there is a logical explanation for this sighting. "There's a well-known psychological phenomena that if you look at something bright against a blank background it might appear to move on you," explained Markworth. "So, I feel certain that what we have here is a sighting of Venus."
Despite what anyone thinks, Davis says he knows exactly what he saw and will never forget. "Now, I'll probably look into space every night wondering if it's going to return or what's going to happen next," he said.
Davis says he is a little nervous after his UFO sighting and has had trouble sleeping.

Extraterrestrials in the news, and maybe in America

(This article originally appeared on the Transcendent TV & Media site.)

Recent news and related accounts such as those described in the online article "Human-looking ETs secretly in U.S.?" seem to have resonated with many people.

Factors involved in the apparent large amount of interest probably include statements by astrophysicist Stephen Hawking on the potential hazards of contacting extraterrestrials.

His comments in a Discovery Channel documentary program have been covered by many journalists and media platforms.

Recent news articles about the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) program have also probably provided synergy regarding interest in this topic.

And, NASA recently held an open teleconference on astrobiology, the science of the search for extraterrestrial life. NASA has several projects on the drawing board to expand the search for extraterrestrial life.

Additionally, other scientists, experts and interested people have weighed in on this fascinating topic.

PUBLIC SAFETY AND PREPAREDNESS

Is the apparent convergence of these and other current events some kind of "synchronicity" – seeming coincidences that actually have connections, meaning and intelligence? This possibility might be worth considering.

There might also be an education or preparedness plan of sorts in the works.

Many individuals and groups are interested in greater understanding and the availability of information about the possibility or probability that we have been visited by extraterrestrial and/or extra-dimensional intelligent beings, cultures and civilizations.

Bringing more appropriate information on these kinds of topics into the public media and public consciousness may have some benefits, and some drawbacks.

Anxiety or concerns about extraterrestrial visitors, famously evidenced in the 1930 "War of the Worlds" radio show that caused widespread panic in the U.S., are and should be a legitimate concern.

As noted in the 1992 firefighter training manual "Fire Officer's Guide to Disaster Control," psychological impacts of UFOs and related phenomena are a major hazard involved in public safety.

The authors of "Fire Officer's Guide to Disaster Control" point out that "one of the reasons often cited for the tight secrecy on government UFO research findings is the need to prevent the possible panic that a revelation of the truth might arouse."

Additionally, the "Fire Officer's Guide" states that secrecy seems to cut both ways. "One reason given is that military intelligence may view the UFOs as a tool of either a known or unknown potential enemy. If these vehicles prove evasive and surreptitious, all the more reason to suspect them ... the probability looms large that the minds behind these vehicles may well be gathering intelligence of their own."

"Another reason for secrecy may lie in the hope of obtaining knowledge relating to advanced propulsion methods and anti-gravity systems before other potential enemies on Earth may acquire it. Hence, though many nations are secretly investigating UFOs, they are reluctant to share their findings," according to the "Fire Officer's Guide."

The authors also point out that " ... if the apparent visits by alien beings and their space vehicles should pose any type of threat, it will, as always, be the fire service that is called upon to provide the first line of life-saving defense and disaster mitigation."

CODES, COMMUNICATION, CONTACT

In an April 30, 2010, article titled "Stephen Hawking alien warning: Could we talk to them?" on the Christian Science Monitor Web site, CSM staff writer Peter Grier tells readers that a respected cryptologist at the U.S. National Security Agency wrote an unclassified paper decades ago about developing communication methods for contact with extraterrestrials.

NSA cryptologist Lambros Callimahos "developed and taught the NSA's most intensive senior cryptology course," according to the article.

Callimahos' paper, "Communication with Extraterrestrial Intelligence," proposed communications concepts and methods that could be used.

"Fascinated from childhood by both music and codes, he volunteered for cryptology during World War II, and eventually developed and taught the NSA's most intensive senior cryptology course," Grier noted in his article. "He died in 1977 and was inducted into NSA´s Hall of Honor in 2003."

Grier's article also explained that Callimahos apparently had a positive view of human contact with a superior extraterrestrial intelligence. "Like Hawking, Mr. Callimahos assumed that any aliens who contact Earth probably will be our technological betters."

"Unlike Hawking, Callimahos thought this would be great," Grier wrote. Callimahos reportedly noted "the enormous potential gain from our contact with a superior civilization" in a 1966 article he wrote for the NSA Technical Journal.

In sync with Grier's enlightening information about Callimahos' formal interest in this topic going back at least to the 1960s, other accounts of U.S. government interest and activities regarding possible ET contact also claim that much work has been discreetly conducted in these kinds of areas.

SPECIAL OPERATIONS

One of the most interesting reports is the claim that Steven Spielberg's 1977 movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" actually was based on a true U.S. operation in the portrayal of a secret, special 12-person U.S. team in a planned rendezvous with ETs on U.S. soil.

According to information that has been catalogued on the Web site Serpo.org, in the early 1960s, after many years of preparation following the Roswell incident and other related situations, certain U.S. military personnel were screened and trained for a planned 10-year exchange program.

They reportedly went to the home planet of apparently friendly extraterrestrial representatives.

As in the "Close Encounters" movie, the operation allegedly did proceed, and at a landing of the ETs' spacecraft within the U.S., the 12-person team boarded with years' worth of supplies and equipment for the extended mission.

The Project SERPO accounts are claimed to be accurate, at least in the broad sense and with regard to the core story. Information about the program was reportedly released for the public by current and former officials of the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency. However, the accuracy of these reports has also been questioned.

Now, there are similarly-based reports of a U.S. intelligence operation that investigated and apprehended a human-looking male ET who was conducting some kind of activities involving a female federal employee.

The alleged Operation TANGO-SIERRA carried out by U.S. intelligence community personnel reportedly came to the attention of then-president Jimmy Carter, according to the recently-released information.
